Von der Leyen: India and the EU have chosen a strategic partnership and dialogue

India and the European Council have chosen bilateral strategic partnership, dialogue and openness, European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen has said.

"India and Europe have made a clear choice: strategic partnership, dialogue and openness. We use our complementary strengths. We are showing the divided world that there is an alternative way," wrote the EU president on the eve of the opening of the 16th EU-India summit to be held on January 27 in New Delhi, the capital of India.

Von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa, upon arrival in New Delhi, became guests of honor on July 26 at a military event dedicated to the Republic Day in India. On January 27, they will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will be co-chairs of the 16th EU-India Summit.

The agenda of the summit includes discussion of the conflict in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East, sustainable development, use of leading technologies and innovations, discussion of partnership issues in the fields of security and defense.
