Member of the European Parliament Vistisen. US Can Take Control of Greenland 'Without Firing a Shot'

Anders Vistisen, a member of the European Parliament (EC) of the Danish People's Party, believes that US President Donald Trump can use economic means to establish control over Greenland "without firing a shot".

"The US can gain control over Greenland without firing a shot, through investment, economic dependence and security policy realities," he said in an interview with the European publication Politico.

The member of the European Parliament also noted that Denmark "cannot defend Greenland alone", suggesting that any military intervention would be "political suicide" for Washington. He also claimed that talks about Greenland's independence could lead to the island turning into an "Arctic Puerto Rico".

On December 22, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned US Ambassador Ken Hauer in connection with Trump's appointment of Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as his special ambassador for Greenland. According to the American leader, the governor "understands that Greenland is vital to national security and will resolutely protect US interests for security."
