The former Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel did not receive an invitation to the birthday reception of the current German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz, DPA news agency reports.
Merz celebrates his birthday on November 11, turning 70, making him Germany's oldest sitting chancellor since Konrad Adenauer, who resigned in 1963 at the age of 87.
The parliamentary faction of the Christian-Democratic and Christian-Social Union will organize a solemn reception in the Bundestag.
About 300 guests will be invited, including members of parliament and regional leaders of the conservative bloc.
"We have not received such an invitation. In any case, the participation of the former chancellor would be impossible, because he will go abroad," Merkel's press spokesperson told the agency.
