ABC. The National Guard could remain in Washington until the summer of 2026

The presence of US National Guard units in Washington, which are stationed in the capital to fight crime, may be extended until the summer of 2026, reports ABC.

According to documents obtained by the channel's sources, the National Guard mission, which expires at the end of November, could be extended until the summer of 2026. This is related to the 250th anniversary of US independence, which will be celebrated on July 4, 2026.

On August 11, US President Donald Trump announced the deployment of National Guard troops to the capital to fight crime. The president also placed the city's police force under federal control and suggested that the armed forces could be called in to provide security in Washington if necessary.
