Syria can buy weapons from Turkey

Syria intends to buy weapons from Turkey, including multi-layer air defense systems to defend against terrorists and Israel.

This claim was made by the pro-government Yeni Şafak newspaper, noting that the funding could be provided by a special fund for Syria with the participation of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.

The newspaper reports that the Syrian interim authorities have asked Turkey to sell air defense systems, armored vehicles, drones and upgraded artillery systems. However, this request refers to the official sale of weapons, not to Turkey's provision of them as part of military aid.

The publication states that Syria needs the weapon "to strengthen its defense against terrorist and Israeli threats".
