"They tell me: don't close the school in our village." Pashinyan assures that they are not closing, they are building a new school instead

If there are schools with insufficient number of students, where there are 15-20 students, we say to build a school in a suitable place, and there have been cases when they approached me and told me not to close the school in our village. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this at the government session today, May 23: "But we are not closing the school in your village, but building a new school for your village. For example, there are many students in Yerevan whose school is 20 km away from their house. We have to tell people that there is nothing, that the school should be 200 meters away from the house and it cannot be 20 km. I am sure they spend 30-40 minutes on the road and do not complain.

In regions, the distance from the school is a maximum of 10 km. Moreover, the government will provide the minibus. We must say that no schools are closing, but new schools are being built with normal properties. No school is closed in the republic, but new schools are being built for all villages. People in Yerevan go to school 10-20 km away, because in their opinion they are looking for a better education. And who said that a village child does not have the right to pursue a better education," said Pashinyan. In turn, Minister of Education and Culture, Zhanna Andreasyan gave an example. "Recently, I had the opportunity to talk with a representative of a school where there were up to 10 children. The school official said, I want it for our children first. Our children are deprived of the socialization opportunities that other schools have. For example, he used to say that these children never run away from class because there is nothing else to do." Pashinyan responded with a laugh. "Kids are going to start truancy en masse. We don't encourage truancy do we?"
