Who tried to carry out a coup d'état in Azerbaijan? names have been published

Ramiz Mehdiyev, the former chief of staff of the President of Azerbaijan and a member of the Security Council, planned a coup d'état in Azerbaijan, reports the APA state news agency.

According to the source, the Russian side revealed this plan during the meeting of Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev in Dushanbe.

After seizing the power by force, Mehdiyev proposed to create a temporary body, which should be headed by the 87-year-old former official. Mehdiyev also conveyed the information about the alleged members of that council to the Russian side.

During the negotiations in Dushanbe, according to APA, Moscow informed Baku about Mehdiyev's plans and the activities of his network, effectively refusing to support him and officially informing the Azerbaijani authorities.

Mehdiyev was charged with articles 278.1 (attempted seizure of power), 274 (treason) and 193-1.3.2 (money laundering). The court sentenced him to four months of house arrest.

The former official may also be deprived of his state awards and honorary titles.
