In response to the call for Armenia and Azerbaijan, the OSCE Chairman-in-Office will hold consultations on the closure of the Minsk Group

Finland's chairman in the OSCE has started the necessary actions, in response to the joint call of Azerbaijan and Armenia, liquidate the Minsk Group.

Financial diplomat Tony Sandel told the Azerbaijani media about this, which is the Deputy Head of the 2025 working group of the OSCE Chairpership of Finland, established in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"As the chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Finland welcomes the agreements signed in Washington on August 8," the ministry said.

These agreements are an important step towards normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and to achieve long peace in the region, Sandel added.

He said Finland began the process of responding to the joint call of the two countries, additional information will be provided later.

Earlier, the OSCE Headquarters told Paris that the incumbent will hold consultations with the member states of the organization. As it is known, Finland is also a member of the Minsk Group.

Azerbaijan and Armenia jointly addressed the OSCE to dissolve the Minsk Group. On August 8, the two foreign ministers signed this document in Washington, in the presence of leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and the United States.

The liquidation of the OSCE Minsk Group for Azerbaijan was one of the two important conditions for signing a peace agreement with Armenia.

It should be reminded that the OSCE Minsk Group was established in 1992 to promote peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict. In the fall of 2020, after the war, which ended with Azerbaijan's victory, official Baku has repeatedly stated that the Karabakh conflict has been resolved, which means that there is no need for the OSCE Minsk Group and its institutions.

Belarus, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Sweden, Azerbaijan and Armenia are included in the group except Finland, as well as from Finland, from the United States.
