The "Fact" daily writes:
The National Assembly of Armenia, and more precisely, the NA CP faction at the March 25 sitting, fully adopted the draft law on the launch of the European Union of Armenia to join the European Union.
On April 4, the law was signed by the RA President. In order to reach the parliament, the initiators have collected signatures in 60 days, and the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia has ratified the number of submitting the project to the National Path of the European Path.
And what advantages does the EU membership agree with the majority of its supporters, especially what motivates are being guided by doing this choice? Referring to this topic, Armenian News-NEWS.am maybe they may want to "drink coffee in Milan", or to take pictures of the Armenian tuff, from time to time, during short visits of patriotic pastries. Some are in favor of any pro-Western initiative, aims to have Armenia, as much as possible, its ties with the former foreign policy sponsor. However, many are probably just hoping for salvation with Turkey and Azerbaijan. Hope gives people the opportunity to avoid depression, moreover, allows you to ignore more and more worrying news and avoid awkward issues.
Give people hope, and they will choose you, forgetting what you did or did not do in real politics. And so, Pashinyan gave hope to the Armenian people. But all that ended. The adopted law has nothing technically related to European integration, as it does not part of the EU membership settings. Even Pashinyan himself said that this document should not be seen as an application for immediate joining the European Union, according to his words, the main goal is to show the European Union's readiness to approach the European Union. In fact, this law does not give Armenia an advantage, opportunity or privilege, and, in fact, has no legal force.
It does not even mean Armenia's breakup of alliances, including the Eurasian Economic Union and Russia, and the official submission of the Armenian Economic Bay. Such a step is not desirable for Pashinyan, as he seeks to be re-elected in 2026. His only goal is to give hope to the Armenian electorate.
He is more interested in giving hope for the European electorate to the European future, regardless of its real opportunities. In addition, if the application was officially submitted, the fact that Armenia did not expect Armenia in the EU and does not offer anything. Probably no country that has ever started the European integration process, such a cold reception, as Armenia was a short response from EU officials to Armenia, Brussels is aware of the bill and will study it.
The EU has not responded to the law, although Pashinyan regularly listens to those who do not have a well-known Europeans that allow the applications to nourish the illusions of the Armenian society, and the response of the EU's response to the Armenians would force Armenians to face reality.
There was no precedent that the status of a candidate will be provided to countries that do not have a sea or land border with the European Union (as Georgia). The small size of the state, the lack of vital resources for the EU, the EU's territorial conflicts with neighbors. Are there any reasons why Armenia may be interested in the European Union, despite the above-mentioned circumstances?
There are reasons, and Armenia is really interested in the European Union. First of all, it is important for Europe to finally take Armenia out of Russia's influence. Second, Armenia's geographical location has a feature that becomes more important for the European Union. The point is not that Armenia is in a "crossroads of the world" (in fact, not), but the fact that Turkey and the main part of Azerbaijan does not allow them to unite, and Europe would very much like to eliminate that obstacle.
Europe wants to hold a gas pipeline through the territory of Azerbaijan to Turkey, then to Europe, get cheap gas through Azerbaijani or even Russian, "washed" Azerbaijan. Here is the main interests of Europe in Armenia, uninterrupted communication between Azerbaijan and Turkey. European leaders, including Ursula von der Layen, have openly stated this. But is it worth accepting Armenia? Europe is moving in this way. And Armenia is resolved by the Turkic forces, and Europe is enough to support the "reconciliation of the peoples of the South Caucasus".
Therefore, the prospects of Armenia's membership in the EU are not foggy, but absolutely clear. They just don't exist. However, these prospects can be emphasized as "uncertain", "unsure", thus leaving hope until the official membership process has begun.
Pashinyan will try to keep this hope as long as possible. Studies will be conducted on Copenhagen's standards and the Maastricht Agreement will improve the legislative system, and the city center will be installed in the city center, which will eventually fall into the same Nubarashen landfill. Bicycle routes will be phased on the asphalt, the illusion of its "Armenian presence" Illusion before the election, and we will review him, hoping he will end.
However, it should also be noted that euroscepticism is growing in Armenia. According to the last survey of Gallup International, more than 36% do not believe in Armenia's chance of EU membership, and 18.5% described the initiative of the "Civil Agreement" in 2026. Step to prepare for the parliamentary elections.
After all, the brain of the Armenian people is not so easy. The Armenian is an ancient nation, and has not yet left anyone to destroy him.
