Ukraine asks for an invitation to NATO before the end of Biden's term

Ukraine is asking for an invitation to NATO before the end of US President Joe Biden's term in the second half of January next year, said the head of Ukraine's mission to the alliance, Natalia Galibarenko.
"Our idea is that extending an invitation to Ukraine at this moment is a political signal... We honestly believe that this could be part of the legacy of the current American administration," Galibarenko said in an interview with Reuters.
At the beginning of October, the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte visited Kyiv. During the visit, he said that the day would come when Ukraine would become a full member of NATO and that Russia would not have a veto on the issue.
At the same time, the Secretary General did not name any time frame for a possible invitation of Ukraine to NATO, which requires a unanimous decision of all members of the alliance.
