Three-widespread diseases have been reported frequently affected by men

In many countries around the world, men are more often diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes and HIV / AIDS than women. Men are also less likely to apply for medical attention to these pathologies. This conclusion was reached by scientists from the Universate of South Denmark. The results of the research were published in Plos Medicine.

The analysis includes information systems of 204 countries. The researchers considered the so-called "care cascades", the patient's path to the high risk of developing a disease to death, divided by gender. Complete data on hypertension were found in 200 countries, diabetes at 39, and on HIV / AIDS at 76.

The results showed that men not only more prone to hypertension, diabetes and HIV / AIDS, but also significantly less likely to be diagnosed, treatment and follow medical recommendations. In addition, in most countries, men are more likely to smoke, while women are more inclined to have overweight and to have unprotected sex.

The authors of the study emphasize that in order to eliminate inequalities in the healthcare, they need to be more active in preventive and therapeutic programs. It is also important to take into account the gender differences in analyzing health statistics and plan health strategies.
