The fight against obesity enters a new phase

The World Health Organization (WTO) is preparing to first support the use of weight reduction drugs as a strategy for combating obesity among adults.  According to the WHO, more than one billion people around the world suffers from obesity, about 70% of which live in low and medium-income countries.

It is noteworthy that the used GLP-1 drugs, Wegovy (NOVO NORDISK) and Zepbound (Eli Lilly) can provide 15-20% weight loss, but their price exceeds $ 1,000 per month. The WHO has expressed concern over the availability of drugs, especially in countries with low income. The organization calls on access to access programs, including phase pricing and united shopping.

It is possible that these medicines are also included in the WTO "list of necessary medicines", which can promote their widespread use, as it happened in the case of HIV drugs in 2002.
The new proposals will be released in August, and at the same time the organization is developing special guidelines for children and adolescents.
