The head of the EC wants to tighten the issuance of visas to Russian citizens. "RIA Novosti"

The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, called on EU leaders to develop a new common approach to issuing visas to Russian citizens in order to send a "stronger message". He writes about this "RIA Novosti", referring to his letter addressed to the leaders of the countries of the political association.

"Given the security risks that arrivals from Russia may pose, we are working with member states to develop a more harmonized approach to visas and aim to achieve greater clarity by the end of the year," von der Leyen said.

He noted that the percentage of visa denials to Russian citizens has increased since the start of the Special Military Operation, but the European Union has the opportunity to send a "stronger signal" to Russians "about the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine."
