Berlin stopped the adoption of refugees within the framework of the UN High Commissioner for Refugee Commissioner (UNHCR), citing the CDU / CSUs (CDU / CSU) coalition and Social Democrats (SPD), which intends to tighten the country's migration policy, DPA reports.
According to the German Interior Ministry and UNHCR, the government has suspended its obligations to adopt new refugees within the framework of the UNHCR's "Resettlement Program", DPA reports. Within the framework of this program, Germany has approved the adoption of 13,000 refugees with special protection status in 2024 and 2025.
The reasons for the suspension are the negotiations on the formation of the German government's future government, during which it is possible to pay attention to the issue of restricting illegal migration. The CDU / CSU Alliance is in favor of radical tightening of migration policy, while the Social Democrats only support such measures.
