The radical "Taliban" movement ruling in Afghanistan has announced that the country henceforth refuses to participate in the Rome Statute and does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
"The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the name of the state used by the Taliban - TASS notes),as an entity protecting the religious and national values of the Afghan people within the framework of Islamic Sharia, does not recognize any obligation to the Rome Statute or to the institution called the International Criminal Court established on its basis."- the statement says.
According to the statement, the ICC "always acts according to political considerations instead of adhering to the principles of justice and impartiality".
