Parliament met on Tuesday to discuss Israel's expansionist plans and Turkey's possible measures against them.
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Defense Minister Yasar Güler are set to address lawmakers on the conflicts in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, as well as the risk of the war spreading to the Middle East, at a meeting that will be held behind closed doors. Last week, President Tayyip Erdogan, one one of the world's most vocal critics of Israel's military action, surprised many by telling parliament that Israel intends to eventually extend the war to Turkey. "The Israeli administration, acting on its delusions of a 'Promised Land,' will target our homeland after Palestine and Lebanon," he said.
He said Turkey will do everything possible to maintain its position towards Israel, “regardless of the price we have to pay.” “Israeli aggression is also directed at Turkey. We will use all means at our disposal for the sake of our homeland and independence,” Erdogan added. “As the Turkish parliament, we must act together and take confident steps against Israel’s expansionist policies in the region, which we consider a matter of national security,” the speaker said parliament member Numan Kurtulmuş before the start of the session. “We will do everything possible to put out the fire fueled by Israeli attacks in our region,” he said.
