The European Union suspended the visa-free regime for Georgian diplomats

Foreign ministers of 27 EU countries approved the decision to suspend the visa-free regime for diplomatic passports of Georgia. This was reported by the press service of the EU Council.

"Today, the Council decided to suspend part of the visa facilitation agreement between the EU and Georgia. This will result in Georgian diplomats and officials having to apply for an entry permit when traveling to the EU," the statement said.

It emphasizes that "Georgian diplomats and officials will also no longer be able to take advantage of shorter application deadlines, lower visa fees and the ability to submit fewer supporting documents."

As the document explains, the visa-free regime will no longer be available to "members of official delegations of Georgia who participate in official meetings and other events of intergovernmental organizations, national and regional members on the territory of the EU country."

The governments and parliaments of Georgia, the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court of Georgia, as well as holders of diplomatic passports."
