Sanctions undermine Turkey's trust in US. Erdogan

American sanctions against Turkey's defense industry undermine Ankara's confidence in Washington as an ally of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Turkish President Recep Erdogan announced this, reports Anadolu. He added that the sanctions imposed under the American CAATSA law and Ankara's withdrawal from the F-35 fighter jet program "contrary to the spirit of NATO." On August 28, Cumhuriyet newspaper, citing sources, reported that Turkey has decided to abandon Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems in favor of buying American F-16 fighter jets. It is believed that the Turkish side needs these planes against the backdrop of deteriorating relations with Greece.
