A phone conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President-elect Donald Trump has set the tone for China-US relations for the coming period, bringing the world positive expectations of a "good start", according to an editorial in China's state-run Global magazine.
Xi Jinping and Donald Trump had a telephone conversation on Friday. During the conversation, the Chinese leader said that China and the US have a wide field of cooperation, the two countries can become partners and friends for the benefit of each other and the world.
He emphasized that both leaders attach great importance to cooperation and hope that relations between the two countries will have a good start in the new term of the US president.
"At a critical moment, when the whole world is watching how the two leading countries, China and the United States, will build their relations in the future, this telephone conversation was of particular importance," the authors of the article write.
The authors note that the direct contact and exchange of views between the two leaders on key issues at such an early stage and the agreement to establish strategic communication channels suggest that both sides hope to achieve greater progress in China-US relations from a new starting point.
