In 2024, the only state maternity hospital in Yerevan was closed. more than 60 people became unemployed.
MediaHubearlier informed that the entire staff of "Kanaker-Zeytun" CJSC sent a letter of complaint to Nikol Pashinyan. They asked Pashinyan to accept the staff and deal with the issues of the maternity hospital.
They claimed that for years the managers had brought the maternity hospital to the point that it was closed. And they blamed the health minister Anahit Avanesyan and the business interest associated with the latter's name. In response to the employees' complaint, the municipality of Yerevan said that the maternity hospital would not be reopened.
of MediaHubin a conversation with the doctors who were on the verge of becoming unemployed, they mentioned that they had appealed to the Ministry of Health, personally to Minister Anahit Avanesyan, with a request to solve the many problems of the hospital, but none of them dealt with the existing problems. What is remarkable in this story is that next to the maternity hospital, and it was also mentioned in the complaint letter, there is the "Wigmore Women's and Children's Hospital" associated with the name of the Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan and operating under the auspices, where a maternity ward will be opened.
Yesterday, when the minister was summing up the past year, MediaHub recalled this story and asked Avanesyan if he is aware of the maternity hospital, if he received a letter of complaint or not, what is his opinion about the problem?
In response to our question, the minister confirmed that he had received a letter of complaint. "We received it, but not to us, but to other instances, to which we responded." Then he mentioned that he wants to go back a bit and present what the Ministry of Health does and what the Ministry of Health is responsible for.
"We have set ourselves the task of increasing the quality of maternity care in Armenia. This means that all maternity hospitals, regardless of who they are under and regardless of where they are located, must meet the standards set by us, because we are dealing with cases of child birth and maternal death. The standards were reviewed, the maternity hospitals of the republic were evaluated, the levels were reviewed, all the maternity hospitals eliminated their deficiencies within the specified period and adjusted the conditions to our standards.
We are responsible to our citizens that a woman goes to give birth, she must be sure that the maternity hospital meets all quality standards." It is time for the maternity hospital to eliminate the problems and comply with the standards set by the government's decision. However, as the doctors mentioned in the conversation with us, this situation has been created due to the inaction of the managers.
The minister noted that they have not been eliminated and the Ministry of Health issued a decision on the appropriate level of maternity care.
"How was it handed over to the administration years ago, who handed it over, with what money, for what? Why wasn't it managed well? I am not the recipient, you should ask the question to the right recipient," said the minister. Avanesyan added that he will continue to insist that the priority is the quality of maternity care, and the city of Yerevan has sufficient maternity care capabilities to serve the citizens, and the priority, as a policy, should be given to the interests of women giving birth.
to remind
of MediaHubin a conversation with the employees who wrote a letter of complaint, they mentioned that the maternity hospital has "a large amount of debts", as they were told by the Yerevan Municipality, they cannot force anyone to pay these debts. In turn, the staff of the maternity hospital have not received their salaries for more than 11 months, and the maternity hospital has been closed since August. Marianna Aramyan
