At the start of the men's singles match, Khachanov's opponent was the 75th ranked player in the world, representing France. Khachanov won in three sets in the 2.5 hour match.
The Australian Open started on January 12 and will conclude on January 26.
The reigning men's singles champion of the first Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year, the Australian Open, is Italy's Yannick Sinner, and Belarus's Aryna Sabalenka is the women's singles champion.
The women's singles final is scheduled for January 25, and the men's final is scheduled for January 26.
