The funeral of the 39th US President Jimmy Carter took place on Thursday in Plains (Georgia), the ceremony was closed. This is reported by the Associated Press.
Jimmy Carter was buried on the Carter family farm next to his wife, Rosalyn. The former first lady died in 2023 at the age of 96.
A memorial service was held at the Washington Cathedral on Thursday morning, after which at 3:30 p.m. local time (11:30 p.m. Moscow time), Carter's casket was flown by special plane to Fort Moore Air Force Base in Georgia.
With the music of the military band and the salute of the 21st rifle, the hearse departed for Plains Baptist Church, where a short memorial service was held, attended only by family members and a few invited guests.
