Armenia should make a choice between EAEU and the European Union. Overchuk

Armenia has to make a choice between joining the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the European Union. These two organizations are "incompatible" taking into account the free movement of goods, services and capital in their territory, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk said, according to the government's news service.

"EMU and the EU are incompatible. Both unions imply the absence of customs borders and the freedom of movement of goods, capital and labor. It is impossible to imagine that these two unions will merge at some point. Therefore, the draft law about the start" of the "membership to the European Union" considered in the Republic of Armenia puts this country in front of a choice," he said.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, "if the drafters of this bill were completely honest with regard to both the people of Armenia and other EAEU countries, they could have immediately added an article stating that from the moment this law enters into force, Armenia ceases membership in the Eurasian Economic Union."

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister noted that if Armenia's relations with EAEU are limited, "on the one hand, energy carriers and food products will become more expensive, on the other hand, the export of Armenian products will decrease by 70-80 percent."
