A new outbreak of monkey virus has been detected in China

A cluster outbreak of a new strain of monkey Ib virus has been detected in China, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday, Ria Novosti reports. "Recently, a cluster outbreak of monkey virus subtype Ib has been detected in China.

The source of the infection was a foreign citizen with a history of travel and residence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo," said a statement published on the center's official website.

After the outbreak was discovered, China and its regions, such as Zhejiang Province, Guangdong Province, and the cities of Beijing and Tianjin, quickly launched a joint prevention and control mechanism to carry out epidemiological risk investigation, case diagnosis and treatment.
