US President-elect Donald Trump's statements about the possibility of Greenland joining the United States reflect the spirit of the times, but the European Union will not allow other countries to encroach on its borders. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro announced this on France Inter radio.
At first, the minister tried to avoid the topic, saying that he "does not comment on Donald Trump's tweets". However, when the host of the morning program clarified that these were completely official statements during the press conference, Barro said that he did not believe in the possibility of conducting a military operation to annex Greenland to the United States.
"If you ask me, I think no, the USA will not invade Greenland. Have we entered an era where the "rule of the best" returns? The answer is yes," the minister said.
"These statements are consistent with the times we live in," he added.
At the same time, the head of French diplomacy admitted that, in fact, Greenland is a territory of the European Union.
"It is obvious that the European Union cannot allow other countries of the world, whoever they are, and I would even say, starting with Russia, to attack their sovereign borders," he said.
