"People". 1.2 trillion drams for the Academic City, but the planned reservoirs are never built

"Zhoghovurd" daily writes:

"After the 44-day war, the authorities tried to form a government again, but many of the five-year concepts and programs they presented have not even started.

The current Armenian authorities presented a five-year government plan for the 2021 national elections, which was planned to be implemented in 2021-2026. According to one of the points of this plan, 15 small and medium reservoirs were to be built in Armenia, but no reservoir construction has been started in 4 years.

Suren Papikyan, former minister of TKE and now minister of defense, announced in the National Assembly in 2021. "This year, during the implementation of the 2020 budget, I announced from this podium about the construction of 1.5 dozen reservoirs. The government is taking steps towards the construction of small reservoirs in the next 10-15 years.

I have even made a list here, 4 of which refer to the Vayots Dzor region, including the Yelpin reservoir, as well as the Khndzorut and Khachiki Vernashen reservoirs.

In this direction, in the near future, work will be done on formulating design-estimate documents and their complete construction in 10 to 15 years, in order to solve the problem."

In 2023, in the long-awaited, but unrealizable reservoir construction plan for KP, one thing became clear: there was one reservoir designing company in Armenia. This project is not new. In 2019, the former deputy chairman of the Water Management Committee, Mihran Hovhannisyan, told Armenpress that there is already a plan for the construction of 22 small reservoirs. 22 became 15. In general, the volume of surface water in Armenia is approximately 7 billion cubic meters, of which 1.5 billion is used for irrigation. 1 billion 800 million cubic meters.

"The rest flows out of Armenia. We plan to increase the number of reservoirs. Currently, there are 22 small reservoirs," said Mihran Hovhannisyan. The total volume of these 22 reservoirs should be 127 million cubic meters 220 million dollars was calculated. Even the planned amount was calculated, but the project remained on paper. The government's goal is to store water inside Armenia, but for this, reservoirs costing millions are not built and irrigation water channels are not repaired, and as a result, Armenia has a huge amount of water losses, which according to digital data we will present next.

Instead of building 1-2 reservoirs per year, which is more urgent and important, the Government spares no effort and energy to allocate 1.2 trillion sums for a fragmented "Academic City" project.
