The US advised its citizens to leave Syria

The US administration has advised Americans to leave the territory of Syria due to the unpredictable security situation, this is reported on the website of the US Embassy in Syria.

"The security situation in Syria remains volatile and unpredictable due to armed conflict and terrorism throughout the country. US citizens should leave Syria if possible," the statement said.

US citizens who cannot leave Syria are advised to prepare for emergency situations and to shelter in place for an extended period of time. The US Embassy adds that it stopped its activities in Damascus in 2012, therefore, it does not provide consular services to US citizens in Syria. Those Americans who need assistance to travel should contact the embassy of the country they are traveling to.

Since the end of November, anti-government forces of Syria have captured several major cities of the country.

On December 8, opposition representatives entered Damascus and announced on state television that they had established control over the country. The transitional government of Syria is headed by Mohammed al-Bashir.
