"Hraparak" newspaper writes:
"Nikol Pashinyan has decided to hold a referendum on Armenia's membership in the European Union, or rather, to meet the "Eurovote", as a result of which the "Platform of Democratic Forces" has collected about 60,000 signatures, submitted to the CEC.
The leader of the European Party of Armenia, which is part of the platform, Tigran Khzmalyan told us that the process of verifying signatures in the CEC has been completed, they will discuss it on the weekend and present the project to the National Assembly a day before.
According to the procedure, the National Assembly must decide whether to appoint a referendum or reject it. If they refuse, the initiative group should conduct another signature collection and collect 300,000 signatures to implement the referendum without the decision of the National Assembly.
But there are reports that in the near future the parliament will approve the "Eurovote" project. Khzmalyan cannot say how the government will act, he assures that if they refuse, they will collect 300 thousand signatures. "If they really want to hold a referendum, they didn't need to wait for the signature collection, it was just a whip.
If they want, they can start such a process even today."
A few days ago, Nikol Pashinyan, in an interview with the Public TV Company, said almost directly that they cannot reject pro-Westerners in the parliament and, according to everything, they will accept the Eurovote project.
He recalled his speech in the European Parliament months ago, in which he declared Armenia to be as close as possible to the European Union, and emphasized that it was one of the most popular speeches on social networks, which, according to him, testifies to the broad public support for that agenda.
Pashinyan noticed that from the point of view of political logic, it will be difficult to oppose the "Eurovote" initiative.
