The topic of opening the land corridor through the Syunik region of Armenia has become one of the key issues of regional policy.
Turkey and Azerbaijan are actively lobbying for this project, seeing direct communication with Azerbaijan, Nakhichevan, as well as the strategic opportunity to unite with Central Asia. For Baku and Ankara, this corridor is not only an economic but also a political tool that will strengthen their influence in the South Caucasus and change the balance of power in the region.
The situation is more complicated for Armenia. On the one hand, the reopening of communications can benefit economic benefits, but on the other hand, it contains serious risks for the country's sovereignty and security. The opening of the corridor, without Armenia's real guarantees and controls, may lead to the strengthening of pressure from Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as the emergence of new threats of national security.
It is no coincidence that many experts and politicians are important to prevent foreign players, especially Russian MP Andrey Lugovo, has shown experiences to pursue a multi-vector policy.
