The Washington administration plans to take new measures against the Georgian authorities, including introducing additional restrictions.
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said this in a written statement published on Wednesday.
"The United States is now preparing to use the tools at our disposal, including the imposition of additional sanctions, in addition to the further review of bilateral cooperation that we announced earlier," said the head of the US foreign policy department.
In his opinion, the Georgian authorities "must immediately release" those who were detained "for exercising the right to peaceful assembly and expression".
According to the Secretary of State, "officials guilty of illegal use of force should be held fully accountable."
"The United States strongly condemns the unjustified violence of the "Georgian Dream" party against Georgian citizens, mass media and opposition figures.
We are particularly worried about reports of serious injuries to people as a result of the actions of law enforcement officers," he said.
