Modi and Macron discussed developing ties in defense, space and energy sectors

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron within the framework of the "G20" summit in Brazil, during which they discussed the development of ties in the fields of defense, space and civil nuclear energy. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India in a press release.

According to the department, the meeting between Modi and Macron was the third since 2024.

"They appreciated the progress of bilateral cooperation, including in strategic areas such as defense, space and civil nuclear energy, and pledged to accelerate its further development to strengthen their shared commitment to strategic autonomy," the Indian Foreign Ministry said.

During the meeting, they also mentioned "strengthening trade, investment and technology ties, including in digital technology and artificial intelligence, as well as Indo-French partnership in digital public infrastructure".

"In this context, the Indian Prime Minister welcomed President Macron's initiative to organize the upcoming AI Action Summit in France," the South Asian foreign ministry said.

In addition, Modi and Macron exchanged views on regional and international issues, including the Indo-Pacific region.
