How dangerous is acute respiratory infection? Romella Abovyan's comment (video)

The season of acute respiratory infections began in October. Citizens complain of respiratory problems, viruses and flu-like respiratory diseases that often lead to pneumonia.

Euromedia24.com contacted Romella Abovyan, head of the Department of Infectious and Non-Communicable Diseases of the RA Ministry of Health, to find out if there is an epidemic of acute respiratory infections in our country. Abovyan noted that the increase in cases is predictable, which is consistent with the season. At the moment, however, there is no sharp increase in diseases. it proceeds with average activity.   "73% of the total cases were recorded among 0-18 year olds.

In the period between October 4-11, average activity due to the SSF was observed. During that time, the number of patients with flu was 4,621.

Compared to the same period last year, the number of cases is 1.1 times lower," said Abovyan. As for the cases of hospitalization, according to the head of the Department of Epidemiology of Infectious and Non-Infectious Diseases of the HCCA, there is a decrease from 400 patients to 512 in the previous week. In this case, minors are also the target group.

Preventive measures are implemented in schools and/or kindergartens. Abovyan assured. "The number of people hospitalized with pneumonia has increased by 1.1 times," he stressed.

Referring to the cases of possible outbreak of the coronavirus, he mentioned that in the last 2 weeks, 53 cases of infection with the coronavirus were registered, which decreased by 23 compared to last year. "The indicators of this analysis are carried out as a result of application, many people do not go to the doctor, because they take it relatively easier," said Abovyan and once again emphasized that there is no epidemic of acute respiratory infections in our country.

Romella Abovyan, Head of the Department of Epidemiology of Infectious and Non-infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, advises one thing: not to engage in self-medication, in particular, not to use antibiotics without a doctor's prescription
