"Zhoghovurd" daily writes:
"Before the COP29, the return of the Armenian prisoners is expected, maybe even desired, but the military and political prisoners will not return to Armenia with them.
Military and political prisoners, eight officials of the Republic of Artsakh: Presidents Arkady Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, former Minister of State Ruben Vardanyan, former Commander of the Defense Army Levon Mnatsakanyan, former Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces Davit Manukyan, Speaker of the National Assembly Davit Ishkhanyan, refused even the services of a lawyer or a lawyer. :
"Zhoghovurd" daily learned that former Foreign Minister Davit Babayan is the only one after Ruben Vardanyan who has an international lawyer.
Davit Babayan's lawyer is Jack Hakob Burnazyan, an American resident Armenian. And Ruben Vardanyan has the great support of the international community, but it seems that this support has not led to any success until now.
It should be noted that there are some persons from the military and political prisoners who asked their families not to try to contact them anymore and urged them to forget about their existence.
"Zhoghovurd" daily referred to the cases of prisoners kept in inhumane conditions in Baku and their torture.
Let's remind that a month ago, the lawyers of Ruben Vardanyan, the former Minister of State of the Republic of Artsakh, who was illegally detained in the prison of Azerbaijan, filed a lawsuit in Baku, stating that Vardanyan was subjected to torture and was deprived of the right to a speedy trial, reports Reuters.
Vardanyan's lawyers emphasized that one of the cases related to the lawsuit is the torture that took place during Vardanyan's hunger strike in April 2024.
They stated that in response to this, Ruben Vardanyan was transferred to the punishment cell, forced to stand, forbidden to wash and deprived of water for two days.
In another lawsuit, Vardanyan's lawyers stated that his right to a speedy trial has been violated since last year due to his arrest.
In a separate lawsuit, accusations were brought against the Azerbaijani Russian-language newspaper "Bakvi Travavor", which spread defamation against Ruben Vardanyan.
In their statement, Ruben Vardanyan's lawyers also called on Azerbaijan to release all Karabakh Armenian prisoners held in the country before the start of the COP29 summit.
