"Fact" daily writes:
Diversification of the economy is important for any country in order not to depend on one country and one direction.
The authorities of Armenia also regularly talk about diversification, but they are increasingly recording the opposite result.
And in general, the foreign policy orientations and approaches of any country largely depend on foreign trade turnover, economic relations with other countries and a number of other similar factors.
For example, the trade turnover of neighboring Georgia with Russia increased to 1 billion 313 million US dollars in January-September 2024. In particular, the export of wine from Georgia to Russia increased by 14 percent, reaching a record 146.9 dollars.
Moreover, Russia accounts for 68.5 percent of Georgian wine exports. For comparison, Poland is second with only 5.2 percent, Ukraine is third with 4.1 percent, Kazakhstan is fourth with 3.8 percent, and China is fifth with 3.1 percent. In addition to wine, Georgia immediately increased the export of strong alcoholic beverages to Russia by 2.7 times.
The lion's share is brandy (107 million), followed by whiskey (2.6 million) and vodka (442 thousand). Export volumes of mineral and carbonated drinks to Russia increased by 25.7 percent and reached 61 million dollars.
And here, the export of so-called "lemonades" to Russia increased by 2.8 percent. In order to make the picture more complete, let us also present the picture of Armenia's foreign trade turnover.
The volumes of our country's foreign trade with the EU countries have significantly decreased, decreasing by about 24 percentage points. Instead, trade volumes with the Russian Federation increased 3.6 times.
According to statistical data, Armenia's trade with EAEU countries will already exceed the volume of Armenia-EU trade by 6.8 times in 2024, which has not yet ended.
