The preliminary investigation into the criminal case against Maria Ispiryan, vice-rector of the Pedagogical University, her son and the vice-president of the Chess Federation, Grandmaster Smbat Lputyan, was announced. "Zhoghovurd" daily reported that on April 18, the vice-rector of the Pedagogical University, her son and the vice-president of the Chess Federation of Armenia, Grandmaster Smbat Lputyan were arrested. They were later charged, after which they were released.
According to the Anti-Corruption Committee, within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings, the vice-rector of the Armenian State Pedagogical University and a number of other employees were arrested on charges of abusing official powers, committing fraud, assisting it and committing official forgery. Moreover, we reported that during the preliminary investigation, vice-rector Maria Ispiryan paid about 5 million drams to the state budget in order to compensate the damage caused to the state.
