According to South Korea's "Yonhap" news agency, an ordination ceremony for a humanoid robot took place in Seoul's Jogyesa Buddhist temple. The event took place in the grounds of the Jogyesa Congregation's main temple before the Buddha's birthday celebrations.
After the ceremony, the 130-centimeter-tall robot was named Gabi, which translates as "compassion". He wears traditional monastic robes and during the ceremony vowed to observe religious precepts, including not harming and using energy sparingly.
The Chogye congregation noted that the initiative symbolizes the coexistence of technology and tradition.
