The holiday of the miraculous Resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is also called Holy Easter, will be celebrated on April 5 this year.
Easter is one of the 5 feasts of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
After the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ, in the evening, pious people took His body down from the cross and placed it in a stone-hewn tomb, covering it with a large stone. Three days later, on Sunday morning, the anointing women, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of Jacob, and Solomon, went to the tomb to anoint Christ's body with fragrant oils, but were surprised to find that the stone at the entrance to the cave had been removed and the tomb was empty. While they were perplexing, two angels appeared and said: "Why do you seek the living among the dead? Not here, but resurrected" (Luke 24:5-6). The women announced the news of the resurrection to the apostles, after which Jesus appeared to them. The Resurrection of Christ became the foundation of Christian doctrine and faith.
"If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not risen either. And if Christ is not resurrected, our preaching is in vain, and your faith is in vain" (I Cor. 15:13-14).
S. In the evening before the Resurrection Day, the Church of St. Chragalutsi is served. A liturgy that begins Easter celebrations. In the morning in the churches, a liturgy is performed, a ceremony of Atonement, and then a festive St. Liturgy. S. On the Feast of the Resurrection, the believers greet each other with the message "Christ is risen from the dead" and the answer is "Blessed is the Resurrection of Christ".
Believers paint eggs on Easter. The dyed egg is considered a symbol of Resurrection and new life. The red color symbolizes the life-giving blood of the crucified Jesus, which was shed for the salvation of mankind.
According to S. Grigor Tatevatsi: "We paint eggs only on Easter, because the egg is an example of the world", and as the sages say. "The outer shell is like the sky, the membrane is like the air, the white is like the water, and the yolk is the earth. And the red color symbolizes the blood of Christ. And we take the red egg in our hands and proclaim our salvation."
The Armenian Church celebrates the feast of the miraculous Resurrection of Jesus Christ for fifty days until the Feast of the Resurrection (Pentecost). This course is called Hinants region or Hinunk, which comes from the word "fifty".
The forty days of the Hinants period are the commemoration of the Risen Christ appearing to the disciples and testifying about the kingdom of God (Acts 1:3), and the last ten days are dedicated to the Ascension of Christ.
The Hinants period ends with the Feast of Pentecost. Ten days after the ascension, according to Christ's promise, the Holy Spirit of God descended on the apostles. The Spirit and the empowered apostles bore witness to Christ throughout the world.
