Liluashvili, the former head of the State Security Service, was arrested for taking a bribe in Georgia

The former head of the State Security Service of Georgia, Grigol Liluashvili, was arrested for accepting a large bribe and faces 11-15 years in prison. This was announced by the Prosecutor General of Georgia Giorgi Gvarakidze during the briefing.

"As a result of the joint operational-investigative operations of the General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia and the State Security Service, the former head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili, was arrested.
He is accused of accepting bribes in several cases under our proceedings," Gvarakidze stated. As noted by the chief prosecutor, Liluashvili is accused of deliberately receiving a particularly large bribe by a group of persons, which provides for 11-15 years of imprisonment.

According to Gvarakidze, we are talking about several incidents. In particular, in October 2022, Liluashvili, with the help of then Deputy Economy Minister Romeo Mikoutadze, received a $1 million bribe from a Turkish investor to lobby for a memorandum on the construction of wind farms.
