The appointment of a special envoy for Greenland issues by US President Donald Trump shows that the US interest in the island continues, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løcke Rasmussen said.
On Monday, Trump announced the appointment of Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as special ambassador for Greenland. Landry later confirmedThe intention of the United States to make Greenland part of its territory:
"This designation shows that the United States continues to have an interest in Greenland. However, we emphasize that everyone, including the US, must respect the kingdom's territorial integrity," the minister said in a comment to DR.
Trump has repeatedly stated that Greenland should become part of the United States.
