Greco-Roman wrestler Malkhas Amoyan was awarded the prestigious "Comeback of the Year" award for the 2025 season. He received special recognition for his impressive return to the top of the world rankings after a difficult few years filled with injuries and weight class changes.
After winning the title in the 72 kg weight category at the 2021 World Championships in Oslo, Amoyan decided to move to the 77 kg weight category. This was a difficult step. In 2022 and 2023, he came within one fight of the gold medal at the World Championships, and at the 2024 Paris Olympics, he settled for the bronze medal three times.
2025 was a turning point. According to experts, 26-year-old Amoyan had one of his most impressive performances in Greco-Roman style wrestling at the World Championship held in Zagreb. The tournament ended with his convincing 9-1 victory over reigning Olympic champion Nao Kusaka of Japan in the final, which brought the Armenian athlete his second world champion title.
