Apple plans to increase the RAM of the iPhone 18 series by about 50% compared to the current models, according to MacRumors, citing the South Korean publication Bell.
In the current iPhone 17 series, the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models are equipped with 12 GB of RAM, which is 4 GB more than their predecessors. The increase in memory is due to the increase in the processing requirements of artificial intelligence. However, the base version of the iPhone 17 remains the only new generation model with 8GB of RAM.
According to The Bell, Apple intends to standardize the specifications of the iPhone 18 series and eliminate the 8GB configurations. The company has already asked Samsung to increase its supply of LPDDR5X chips, which are only available in 12GB and 16GB configurations. Apple is also in talks with SK Hynix and Micron to expand its mobile DRAM supply.
According to rumors, the iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the foldable iPhone Fold will be released in the fall of 2026, while the base version of the iPhone 18 and the budget iPhone 18e will not appear until the first half of 2027.
