The President of Colombia called the US sanctions against him and his family paradoxical

Colombian President Gustavo Petro against himself and his family members by the US governmentsanctions appliedcalled it paradoxical, considering Bogota's fight against drug trafficking.

"In response to my effective fight against drug trafficking for decades, I received this from the government of a society that we had helped so much to curb the use of cocaine. This is a complete paradox, but no retreat, no kneeling," he wrote in X.

According to Petro, attorney Daniel Kovalik will represent his interests in the United States.

Earlier, the Foreign Assets Control Office of the US Treasury announced that the US administration has decided to impose sanctions on Petro, his wife and son. The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic Armando Benedetti was also included in the list.
