The organizers of the "Gentleman of the Year" award announced the removal of "Krasnodar" midfielder Eduard Spertsyan from the list of contenders. This decision was made after the scandal erupted after the football player was accused of making a racist expression.
"In the current situation, due to the decision of the Disciplinary Control Committee to fine the player and the great public reaction, we do not consider it appropriate to leave the "Krasnodar" football player on the list of contenders for the gentleman's black tuxedo," the press service of the organizers quoted the "Komsomolskaya Pravda" newspaper as saying.
The scandal related to Spertsyan arose after the expulsion of "Akhmat" player Usman Ndong, who hit the midfielder of "Krasnodar" during the confrontation between the RPL teams. The defender of Grozny stated that Spertsyan provoked him with racist expressions.
The Disciplinary Control Committee investigated the episode and decided to disqualify Ndong for two RPL matches, one of which is conditional, and to fine Spertsyan 150,000 rubles for insulting the "Akhmat" defender.
