The world's largest mosquito breeding plant has opened in Brazil

According to Oddity Central, the world's largest mosquito breeding center has opened up to 190 million insects per week. The center is part of a large-scale fight against Dengue fever in the country.

The 1300-square-meter-meter area is bred by AEDES Aegypti mosquitoes, which are infected with harmless Wolbachia bacterium, which prevents Dengke virus reproduction to insects. After missing wildlife, these mosquitoes are unable to transmit the virus to people, and their descendants inherit the same protective properties.

The proposal process is thoroughly controlled. Insects are growing in a pre-determined temperature of water filled with water, adult males are given a sugar solution, and female blood lyrics. The mosquitoes live in the boxes for about a month, during which they multiply and eggs that start the next cycle.

According to experts, the method has already been effective in a number of countries, but Brazil is the first to use it so large. This is due to an unprecedented flame of the disease. In 2024, more than 80% of the registered cases of Dengue fever were registered in Brazil.

The power of the new plant will allow you to produce a sufficient amount of mosquitoes to provide a preemptive treatment of up to 100 million people a year.
