The creator of the "Filibusta" online library has died

The creator of the free online library "Filibusta" has died (blocked in Russia - ed.).

"Hello, it seems that the date of my death has been clarified. If I don't write on Monday, then it worked. In that case, please release this information on Tuesday for the sake of history and to stop all fundraisers to help Steve," the message reads.

Earlier, the creator of "Filibusta" under the pseudonym Stiver announced that he has brain cancer and emphasized that he intends to use the assisted suicide service on October 20. Moreover, he mentioned that the work of the servers has been paid for the next few weeks.

The "Filibusta" project was launched in 2009. Books in Russian and other languages are available on the platform. In late 2015, the Moscow City Court ruled to "permanently block" one of the most popular torrent trackers in Russia, Rutracker, upholding a copyright infringement lawsuit. In 2016, the Moscow City Court permanently blocked the online library.
