The leaders of Turkey and Greece are negotiating to maintain positive dynamics

Turkish President Recep Erdogan and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis began talks in Ankara on May 13, aiming to maintain the positive dynamics achieved in bilateral relations in recent months, despite ongoing problems, Reuters reported.

"Turkey and Greece are allies of NATO, at the same time, and historical enemies," the agency wrote. According to the source, they have long been at odds over issues such as maritime borders, energy resources in the eastern Mediterranean, flights over the Aegean Sea and the occupation of part of Cyprus.

"After years of tension that brought these countries to the brink of conflict, they have begun to take high-profile steps to improve relations, especially when the two leaders were re-elected last year," writes Reuters.

Erdogan hosted Mitsotakis in the presidential palace in Ankara, TRT state TV channel reports. Then their joint press conference is planned.
