The average temperature in September in Armenia has increased, and precipitation has decreased

In September, the air temperature and the amount of precipitation exceeded the norm. This is reported by the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center.

The average monthly air temperature in Armenia in September 2024 was 13.9 °C, which was 0.7 °C above the norm. At the same time, September of this year was considered wet, as the amount of precipitation, 47.7 mm, was 170% of the norm.

Relatively hot weather was observed on September 3-4 and 12-13, when the maximum air temperature in the Ararat Valley reached 35-37°C. For comparison, let's note that the highest air temperatures recorded in the first ten days of September 2022 were 39-40 °C in the Ararat valley, and up to 40.8 °C in Meghri.

According to the observation data since 1935, the warmest September was observed in 2017, when the average monthly air temperature was 16.4 °C, exceeding the norm by 3.2 °C, and the coldest was in 1956, with an average monthly temperature of 10.4 °C. .

The wettest September was observed in 1951, when the average amount of precipitation was 111.4 mm, almost 4 times more than the norm, and the driest was September 2007 with only 1.7 mm of precipitation.

Climate change assessments show that since 1935, the average September temperature in Armenia has increased by 1.6 °C, and precipitation has decreased by about 5 mm.
