An earthquake occurred off the coast of Japan

An earthquake occurred off the coast of Japan's Iwate prefecture. This is reported on the website of Japan's main meteorological agency.


Tremors were recorded in the Pacific Ocean at 13:38 local time (at 8:38 Yerevan time). Their strength was 5.2 magnitude. As seismologists found out, the source of the natural disaster was located at a depth of 40 km. Residents of two prefectures of the country, Iwate and Aomori, felt the tremors on the earth's surface with a magnitude of up to three points. However, the authorities have not announced a tsunami threat. There are no reports of casualties or malfunctions in the nuclear power plants located in the earthquake area.
