China plans to reduce American film screenings against Washington and Beijing in the background of a trade war. This was reported by the State Department of Cinematography.
"The wrong practice of the US government to abuse China's customs duties will inevitably lead to the further decline in favor of the Chinese spectator to American films," the statement said. "We will follow the rules of the market, we will respect the audience's choice and reduce the number of American import films."
The agency emphasized that China is the second largest film market in the world. "We always hold high levels of openness to the outside world and present high quality films from more countries to meet the market demand," the statement said.
In 2024, about 85% of the films shown in China were produced inside the country.
