The Georgian parliament has adopted the American version of the law on foreign agents

The Georgian parliament has adopted a law on foreign agents in the third and last reading, which is a precise copy of FARA (foreign agency registration act) in the United States. The plenary session was broadcast on the parliament website.

86 deputies voted in favor of the law, no one was opposed.

In early February, the Georgian Democratic Georgia Party announced that it would adopt analogue of the American law on foreign agents, Fara's accurate analog.

According to the leaders of the parties, the new law will be more effective than the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence in May last year, the real purpose of which is to support revolutionary processes in the country.

Georgia's legislation, unlike the American law, does not apply to individuals and implies only fines for not submitting an annual income declaration. The US law envisages up to 5 years in prison.
